Education 3601 - Drama
Class Log #5 – Jan. 26, 10
Activities: Saw resource presentations --> really great, LOADS of information
Classroom Management
Think about high, medium, and low (H, M, L) misbehavior actions --> need a number of things we can do in response.
- Walking away from assignment (storming away = M, walk = L)
- Talking when teacher is speaking (L)
- Inappropriate questions (L)
- Getting students settled (L)
- “Little man” --> with sound especially (L/M depending on sounds or not)
- Playing around with stuff on desk (L/M depending on frequency)
- Cell phones (M)
- Poor interactions with other students (M)
- Punching one another (M/H)
- Name calling (“Fuck-head” = H, “Shit-head” = M, “Poo-head” = L)
- Incomplete assignments (H/M/L --> totally depends on the situation, and whether or not this is a continual issue and such.)
- Participation (M/L)
- Emotional breakdown/defiance (emotional breakdown = M, defiance = H)
- Boundary pushing/sneakiness (H/M/L)
- Conflict resolution outside of class --> “Tattle tails”--> tattling to get someone in trouble VS. telling to get someone out of trouble/keep em safe
- Disengaged kids (M)
- Violence against you (H)
- Swearing in general/at you (H)
- Note passing (L/M/H)
- Threats --> MAD IMPORTANT! (H)
Steps to keep in mind for lower level: Stop, Look, and finally Proximity
For log:
Classroom management --> basic foundation you need to breed a good community, RESPECT HUGE! Punishment should fit the crime/consequences should match the issue --> more effective to build up than just explode (far more impact on the student, still will take you seriously) --> set up basic foundation, less likely to ever have to resort to more drastic stee’s. Don’t ever want to turn the student into a victim “Why us a cannon when a shotgun will do?”
Management assignment:
1) Need a rationale --> why even bother with it? NEED TO ANSWER THAT
- respect
- L/M/H misbehaviors = L/M/H responses
- “with it-ness” --> know what’s going on
- class atmosphere
- self control
NO MORE THAN ONE PAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2) Intervention plan
*See your hand done notes for how this will look --> basically split page into 6 sections, 3 for H/M/L, half the page for misbehaviors, half the page for responses
For next class:
In Loco Parenthis?
--> Look up, define from multiple sources, and explain it in the classroom --> basically: “You’re the parent in the classroom”
